Consistent, reliable data protection

NetWorker works with the Oracle7 Backup Utility to provide comprehensive protection for large Oracle7 databases. The Oracle7 Backup Utility provides a "database aware" mechanism to back up and recover Oracle data files, control files, and online redo logs, while maintaining database security and referential integrity. NetWorker extends this protection with built-in features for consistent enforcement of backup policies, automatic verification of backup operations, and comprehensive media management.

Unmatched performance

NetWorker and the Database Module for Oracle achieve maximum performance for backup and recover operations by streaming data from multiple tablespaces or multiple data files in parallel to one or more storage devices operating concurrently. With this parallelism, NetWorker eliminates a common bottleneck resulting from tape drives starting and stopping, allowing the device to operate at its maximum speed. NetWorker's throughput also scales efficiently with processor, disk and device characteristics to deliver maximum backup performance.

Online operation minimizes user disruption

The Oracle7 Backup Utility and the Database Module for Oracle allow partial or full database backups. This integrated solution performs backups of Oracle tablespaces or data files, parameter files, as well as control files -- while the database is online and in use. To automate off-line backups, NetWorker provides a mechanism to shut down and restart the target database. The NetWorker-Oracle environment also supports online operation for restores of tablespaces and data files. Fast, parallel streaming of data files ensures rapid job completion and minimal user disruption for all backup and recover operations.

Automated, unattended operations

NetWorker Autochanger Software Modules provide fully-automated, "lights-out" backup and recovery by dramatically reducing media handling. NetWorker's SmartMedia automatically labels and tracks valid tapes, eliminating the possibility of accidental erasure. Using media pools, the database administrator can segregate Oracle data from other backups on its own set of media, or send database backups to the fastest media devices available.
